Keith J. Masback
The James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies (CNS) at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey is very pleased to announce that Keith J. Masback has joined our team as a Non-Resident Advisor for Industry Partnerships.
Keith is a leading international authority on geospatial intelligence (remote sensing, geospatial/location data and information, analytics, and visualization). He spent over twenty years as an infantry and military intelligence officer in the US Army, and as a senior executive civilian at both the National Geospatial–Intelligence Agency (NGA) and on the Army Staff. In various government executive positions, he was responsible for future planning and programming for Army Intelligence, future planning and architecture for NGA, and for leading the management of the daily operational employment of US space-based imaging and missile warning assets. He later served for over a decade as the president and CEO of the United States Geospatial Intelligence Foundation (USGIF), a 501(c)(3) educational nonprofit, leading synergy and growth across its 240 member companies, organizations, and academic institutions.
“Keith will be a great addition to the CNS team, which is already leading the field in open-source analysis as it relates to weapons of mass destruction proliferation,” said Founding Director Dr. William Potter. “Our expertise in this field has always been enhanced by our strategic partnerships with private companies breaking new ground in this space, and Keith’s experience in both the private and governmental sectors will further enhance these partnerships and our in-house capabilities.”
Keith currently serves on the Landsat Advisory Group of the National Geospatial Advisory Committee, is a councilor and fellow of the American Geographical Society, a member of the Board of USGIF, and a member of the Advisory Boards of both the International Spy Museum and Global Special Operations Forces Foundation.
He has previously served as a member of the Intelligence Task Force of the Defense Science Board, on the Department of Commerce, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Advisory Committee on Commercial Remote Sensing, and is a former Chairman of the Department of Interior’s National Geospatial Advisory Committee.
Keith holds a BA in Political Science from Gettysburg College. He completed the Post-Graduate Intelligence Program at the National Intelligence University, as well as executive education at the Elliott School of International Affairs, George Washington University, and the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University.
