Atomic Advertising as History and Imaginary: Nuclear Weapon Laboratory Advertising 1956-1964
Video Seminar: Took place on November 16, 2018, at CNS of MIIS in Monterey
Speaker: Martin Pfeiffer (@nuclearanthro on Twitter) is a Ph.D. student in Anthropology at the University of New Mexico. His current main research focus is nuclear semiotics: the ways in which we create and circulate meaning about, around, and through nuclear weapons.
Martin is interested in how people interact with each other and artifacts to make meaning about nuclear weapons in: official heritage sites (like museums); state projects of nationalism, colonialism, and increased international power; and experts’ interactions with each other and the public in both virtual (Twitter) and non-virtual places.
