The Chernobyl Exclusion Zone and Radioactive Waste Management in Ukraine

Seminar with Margaryta Rayets and Kateryna Pavlova

Video Seminar: Took place on June 1, 2017, at CNS of MIIS in Monterey.

Margaryta Rayets is the Head of the Department for Information, External Relations and PR at the State Enterprise “Technical and Information Support Management Center of the Exclusion Zone,” State Agency of Ukraine on Exclusion Zone Management (SAUEZM). Margaryta has been working on Chernobyl related issues since 2013. Since 2016, she has participated in Working Groups of the Global Partnership (G7) Against the Spread of Weapons and Materials of Mass Destruction: Japan, 2016; Italy, 2017; Canada, 2018. She also acts as a facilitator in a range of other activities related to Chernobyl issues and international cooperation.

Kateryna Pavlova is the Head of the Sector for International Cooperation and Public Relations at SAUEZM since 2017. Her main responsibilities at the Agency include work related to G7 and the IAEA project supporting decommission of nuclear power plant units and radioactive waste management at the Chernobyl Site in the Exclusion Zone. Currently, she coordinates work with companies «ENGIE» and «TRACTEBEL» on the development of a feasibility study for the Chernobyl Solar Project, with funding from the Government of France. Effective implementation and realization of this project are considered as a new stage of liquidation in Chernobyl disaster.
