Spooky Action, Real Stakes: The 2nd Quantum Revolution and What’s Ahead for the Nuclear Field

September 8, 2026

This session offers a plain-language introduction to the second quantum revolution, including a bit of the physics, tracing the shift from the first quantum revolution to today’s three key domains: computing, sensing, and communications. We’ll close with some initial reflections on what these developments could mean for safety, security and operations of the civil nuclear sector, nuclear nonproliferation, and nuclear arms control and disarmament, in the context of the bigger landscape of emerging and disruptive technologies.
