NPT PrepCom features many CNS alumni

Twenty current and past CNS students and staff represented over a dozen national and international organizations at the 2024 NPT Preparatory Committee meeting in Geneva from July 22-August 2. These delegations included Austria, France, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kiribati, Mexico, OPANAL, Russia, the UAE, and UNODA.

CNS Director Bill Potter served as an advisor to the Austrian delegation, and he also spoke at a side event featuring the screening o the film “Paper Lanterns” about US prisoners of war killed during the atomic bombing of Hiroshima. The event was organized by UNIDIR and the Japanese Foreign Ministry.

In addition to the alumni who were part of national and international delegations, a number of former students participated in the NPT PrepCom as part of non-governmental organizations (NGOs), including the Arms Control Association, the Japan Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons, and CNS.
