March 16, 2026

The Center for Nonproliferation Studies is pleased to have published two new issues of its flagship peer-reviewed journal, the Nonproliferation Review (NPR). These collections of articles complete Volume 32 of the journal and feature a range of cutting-edge contributions by scholars and practitioners. They cap off the year of 2025, which saw the journal set a new record for article reads and downloads.

First up is the NPR’s second special issue on the theme of “Beyond Nuclear Deterrence.” It was guest edited by the co-chairs of the MacArthur Foundation working group of the same name: Hassan Elbahtimy, Rebecca Davis Gibbons, and Stephen Herzog. In addition to contributions from the guest editors, it features on-topic articles written by Catherine Eschle; former UN Undersecretary General for Disarmament Affairs Nobuyasu Abe; and Nobumasa Akiyama, Yuki Ohara, and Yuhi Matsushita. Rounding out the issue are regular NPR articles by Alexander Sorg and Norman Cigar.
