Over five dozen senior diplomats gathered in Annecy, France on March 7-8, 2024 for an NPT diplomatic workshop hosted by CNS. Among those in attendance were Ambassador Akan Rakhmetullin, Chair-Designate of the 2024 NPT PrepCom; Ms. Izumi Nakamitsu, UN High Representative for Disarmament Affairs; and “Dr. Robert Floyd, Executive Secretary of the CTBTO. Dr. Patricia Lewis of Chatham House gave the keynote address. The spring Annecy workshop has become an integral part of the NPT review process and is designed to provide an informal setting in which key delegates can exchange candid views about the state of the nonproliferation scene and what can and should be done to strengthen the NPT. It also affords an opportunity for the chair-designate to consult with many delegations in advance of the next NPT meeting.
