CNS is delighted to welcome Dr. Stephen Herzog as its new Professor of the Practice. CNS Founding Director William Potter highlighted Dr. Herzog’s track record of producing a wide range of policy-relevant studies. He stated: “We are excited to have Stephen join us and to participate actively in our many research, teaching, and training activities. His addition speaks to the center’s commitment to producing cutting-edge scholarship with practical implications for nuclear policy.”
Dr. Herzog joins CNS from the Center for Security Studies at ETH Zurich, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, where he worked as a Senior Researcher in Nuclear Arms Control. He is also an Academic Co-Chair of the Beyond Nuclear Deterrence Working Group, an Initiative of the MacArthur Foundation and the Project on Managing the Atom at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government. Before returning to academia, Dr. Herzog held positions with the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration and the Federation of American Scientists.
In his new role at CNS, Dr. Herzog will pursue a variety of activities focusing on multilateral nuclear diplomacy, public opinion on nuclear weapons and civilian nuclear energy, the spread of emerging technologies, and pedagogical approaches for teaching nuclear issues. He also will assist in the editing of the CNS flagship publication: The Nonproliferation Review.
