CNS International Advisory Council Meeting Focuses on Nonproliferation Risks of AI and the War in Ukraine

The CNS International Advisory Council met in Washington, DC on October 23, 2023. Leading experts and policy makers from around the world discussed the nonproliferation promise and perils of AI and the future of nuclear arms control and nonproliferation in the wake of the war in Ukraine. Featured speakers included U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Mallory Stewart, OpenAI’s Dr. Sarah Shoker, Dr. Heather Williams, the Honorable Robert Einhorn, Mr. Cyrus Jabbari from the Department of Defense and CNS experts Dr. Ian Stewart, Dr. Jeffrey Lewis, Dr. Allison Berke, and Mr. Yanliang Pan.

The Keynote Speaker at lunch was the Honorable Kurt Campbell, White House Asia-Coordinator, whose remarks focused on nonproliferation challenges in the Asia Pacific. After dinner, Dr. Hanna Notte engaged in a conversation about US and Russian nuclear issues with the Honorable Rose Gottemoeller.

The day-long event, which included an afternoon business session, brought together many CNS alumni, who currently work in various US government agencies
