Chemical Weapons Arms Control at a Crossroads: Russia, Syria, and the Future of the Chemical Weapons

On March 23, Dr. Hanna Notte spoke at a webinar hosted by the George Mason University Schar School of Policy and Government’s Biodefense program. Speaking alongside Dr. John Walker and Dr. Una Jakob, her remarks focused on Russia’s stance in the OPCW over the Navalny case and contestations over Syria’s disarmament-related obligations. Dr. Notte illustrated how Moscow argues over these issues legally and procedurally within the CWC framework, as well as the likely political calculations behind such argumentation.
