For the purposes of this chronology, chemical weapons are defined in the same manner as Article II of the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC): “Munitions and devices specifically designed to cause death through [their] toxic properties…” The definition of biological weapons follows Article I of the Biological and Toxic Weapons Convention (BTWC) as paraphrased: microbial and biological agents employed for hostile purposes.
