As a research associate at the Center for Nonproliferation Studies (CNS) in D.C., Madelyn analyzes nuclear nonproliferation and arms control at the intersection of advanced technologies, strategic trade management, and multilateral cooperation. She coordinates capacity-building semiconductor supply chain and research security workshops with U.S. partners across Asia and conducts open-source intelligence analysis on DPRK proliferation finance schemes. Her previous research at CNS and her alma mater, the University of Georgia, has measured Chinese nuclear modernization and expansion through open-source intelligence analysis, the impacts of democratic erosion on hostile nuclear signaling, and what track 1.5 and 2 strategic dialogues from the past can tell us about the future of U.S. – China arms control. Madelyn’s work and research are people-oriented; she believes that bridging the gap between the humanities and STEM will be critical for negotiating the next generation of nuclear arms control agreements, which cannot be successful without combining diplomatic tact, analytical strength, and technical expertise.
